9 Healthy Habits For A Healthy Lifestyle
1. Make time for physical activity
Most of us are used to sitting or lying down for longer hours than we move. Try to get your body moving first thing every day.
Easier said than done, right?
But it is doable.
You don’t have to do a particular kind of exercise like everyone else.
If you prefer yoga, go for it. Check out 30 Days of Yoga | My Review Of Home – Yoga With Adriene.
Or if you love the morning breeze, and want to get your heart pumping, then go for a run or walk.
Also, if you prefer at-home cardio, just get moving and sweating.
This is a great way to start your day and elevate your mood.
Remember to take it slow if you took a long break and just getting back into physical activity.

2. Eat more home-cooked meals
Yes, cooking can sometimes be exhausting.
But the thing about cooking your own food is that you have control over the amount of salt, sugar, or fats in it.
So it is up to you to cook healthy foods that are good for your body and enjoy them guilt-free.
And when you begin to cook for yourself, you’d see that healthy foods are actually very delicious too.
The best part is you can have seconds without swiping your card several times.
Now cooking from scratch without a recipe book is not easy for everyone. Also, cooking with a recipe book is annoying for others.
Luckily food subscription boxes like Home Chef makes it easier for you to cook and eat at home.
They send you recipes based on what you like to eat, say more fish, less beef, fewer carbs, etc.
And they also add easy-to-follow recipe cards to help you prepare your meals in minutes.
And if you’d rather not cook, they have already prepared meals you can reheat and eat in minutes.
I think the Home chef meals subscription makes a lot of sense and can help you cultivate healthy eating habits.

3. Get hydrated first thing in the morning
Drink water like your life depends on it. Get hydrated first thing in the morning before eating anything.
This can get your great metabolism moving.
Some tricks to get hydrated are keeping a cup or bottle of water by your bedside, your work station, or even using water drinking apps.
4. Have a flexible routine
While I may not follow routines to the T, I know they work.
At least my morning routine with my preschooler and 4-year-old works to a large extent.
And my nightly yoga sesh used to work until it changed to morning recently, and it’s still working.
One thing I know that makes routines work is when they feel less like a chore.
So even if you’d stick to a routine, make sure it is flexible and works with other plans you may have.

5. Limit social media
While social media is a place to watch funny skits, run money-making businesses, and meet new people, sometimes it is pretty toxic.
People get bullied on social media for just being themselves.
Also, social networks can sometimes be intimidating, overwhelming, and distracting.
And too much of these feelings can be detrimental to your mental wellbeing.
So another hack for a healthy lifestyle is to limit the amount of time you spend on social platforms.
This can help you avoid social media negativity to a large extent.
Also, consider reading a book instead of wasting time on social platforms.

6. Practice gratitude
What are you thankful for?
Make it a habit to practice gratitude. Be thankful for what you have right now and what you’ve achieved over time.
A thankful heart is a joyful heart. And when you are happy, you can consider the what if it works thought more than what if it fails.
I still struggle with this, but I’ll keep trying. And so should you.
We’re all work in progress.
Also, make it a habit to review the past year or month to see how far you have come.
I try to do that for my blog bi-monthly, and it is what keeps me going.

7. Get outside often
Another healthy lifestyle hack you must try is, going outside more often.
I know some of us – me inclusive – enjoy staying indoors by ourselves and relishing our space.
But sometimes, get outside, walk around your neighborhood, stretch your legs a little, and get some fresh air.
This can be very beneficial to your physical and mental health too.
It is a way of pulling yourself out of your comfort zone and make it a little easier to get other things you are working for.

8. Cultivate healthy lifestyle habits like getting quality sleep
While the term night owl seems cool, I’m certain you don’t feel so cool after getting only 3 hours of sleep at night.
So make it a habit to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. And you’d wake up feeling rested and ready to start a new day.
A few things to do before bedtime to sleep well:
- bedtime yoga
- read a book
- take a shower or bath
- wear comfortable nightwear or sleep in the nude.

9. Have some quiet time
Last but not least is to create time to stay quiet in your headspace.
Do gentle yoga sesh, listen and observe your body, and breathe.
This can help you relax, and also remember when it is time to stop and listen.
I really enjoy this.
Even as I’m typing, I just can’t wait to get to my quiet space and just be.
