It is frustrating trying everything to get rid of dark underarms and still get no results.

I know how long it took me to get brighter underarms, to the point where I can raise my arms to wave at or hug someone. Lol.

Yes, that’s how much progress I’ve made in terms of getting brighter underarms.

And I want to share my tips with you, so you too can raise both hands and wave hello.

But before we proceed, let’s look at a few causes of dark underarms.

So in this post, we would explore both natural and home remedies for getting rid of dark underarms.

But before we proceed, let’s look at a few causes of dark underarms.

What Are The Causes Of Dark Underarms?

Here are just a few of the many causes of dark underarms.

  • Shaving blades – leave spots of hair follicles.
  • Hair removal creams – harsh chemicals that can burn your skin. See Depilatory Hair Removal Creams 101.
  • Antiperspirants – some contain aluminum (an ingredient in deodorants and antiperspirants that cause dark underarms).
  • Ingrown hairs and bumps – these leave dark spots in the underarms after they are healed.

  • Remove underarms hair by waxing instead of shaving or hair removal creams.
  • Use antiperspirants without aluminum
  • Exfoliate your underarms regularly.
  • Stop using antiperspirants when at home.
  • Do not scratch itchy underarms, exfoliate them instead.

Home remedies for dark underarms

  1. At-home sugaring with DIY sugar wax is my number one step to brighter underarms.
  2. Always follow sugar waxing with a gentle baking soda water exfoliation, and moisturize with aloe vera or honey.
  3. Epsom salt scrub – Apply dry Epsom salt to damp armpits and scrub gently, let it sit for a few minutes or until dry, then rinse out and moisturize.
  4. Mix baking soda and water to make a thick paste, apply it to both underarms, rinse it out after 10 minutes. Dry your underarms and apply moisturizer.
  5. Wearing a pair of wet exfoliating gloves, scoop some baking soda and exfoliate your underarms, then rinse out and moisturize.
  6. Rub a slice of lemon in your underarms, leave for as long as you want, then rinse off.
  7. Or make a homemade scrub with orange zest and sugar, and exfoliate your underarms with it.

Remember to exfoliate your underarms as often as – if not more than – you exfoliate your whole body.

When you are not leaving the house, do not use deodorants or antiperspirants. Let your underarms breathe.

I hope these tips help you achieve brighter underarms and rock your sleeveless clothes.
